According to the Tallahassee Democrat, one bus was stopped with its stop sign out and flashers on to pick up students. A second bus stopped behind also with its flashing lights on. A semi ran into the back of the second bus, which careened into the first.
The buses had students from kindergarten to eighth grade. As many as 72 students were transported to the hospital with injuries.
The students seriously injured suffered broken legs, ankles, eye sockets and other broken bones and bruised organs. One of the two school bus drivers was treated and released. The driver of the other bus was uninjured.
The truck driver was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. It is not known if alcohol was a factor. Test results are pending.
