Man Charged with Attempted Kidnapping of Boy Walking to Bus Stop

KWTX 10 out of Temple, Texas, reported that Danny Wayne Gilkey, 40, was charged with impersonating an officer after the man approached a boy who was walking to a school bus stop, identified himself as a “cop” and asked him to help search for a missing girl who had been kidnapped.

Gilkey, who is sitting behind bars, was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bond.

The boy told officers that a stranger resembling Gilkey identified himself as an officer, “and told him that a little girl had been kidnapped and asked the victim to come help search for the girl,” a police officer said.

The boy ran as the man started advancing toward him, headed home and told his mother what had happened.
