School Bus Stuck in High Water, Students Evacuate

KY3 in Billings, Montana reported that 20 students were forced to evacuate their school bus through the side windows after the vehicle became stuck in high water on a road off of U.S. 60.

The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. Thursday on the way to school. Emergency personnel said the driver claimed that high winds pushed the bus off the side of the road, but a reporter at the scene said that while it was unclear if barricades on both ends of the road that travels through a rural, wooded area were erected at the time of the incident, signage warns motorists that the road is impassible when high water is present.

The students evacuated the bus by crawling through the windows because the water line was above the side loading and rear emergency doors. No injuries were reported, though some students were “shaken up.” They were later transported to school in other vehicles after being checked on at the scene by local paramedics.
