Electric Vehicles for All?

A startup company is taking American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds and trying to improve the way batteries could move electric vehicles down the road.

EnerG2, based out of Seattle, is in the process of building a factory in Oregon and plans to manufacture materials to improve ultracapacitors. The company is using $21.3 million from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of a $2.4 billion grant program authorized by the Recovery Act of 2009.

But, even with all the work being done to advance the move towards electric vehicles, how soon will we actually see an electric school bus?

Sure, there are hybrids making their way to school districts around the country, but how soon will buses that move about solely on electric power be used to transport our kids? Last time we looked into it, an electric school bus was going to run about a half million dollars. Even after one comes to market, it will take another 5 to 10 years for it to come down enough in price for a district to afford one.
