TSD Speaker Spotlight: Sue Shutrump

Occupational and Physical Therapist Sue Shutrump returns to theĀ TSD ConferenceĀ this year to provide her expertise and perspectives on various issues impacting transporting students with special needs.

Shutrump is the supervisor of OT and PT services for the Trumbull County Educational Service Center in Ohio and is a Tenured Faculty member of the TSD Conference. She also is a certified child passenger safety technician and instructor, and was the vice-chair of the Infants Toddlers and Preschoolers Operations Writing Committee for the 15th National Congress on Student Transportation held in May 2010, among other contributions to the student transportation industry.

Shutrump returns as a co-presenter of the OT/PT/Transporter Forum, which will take place on Monday, March 20 and will address issues related to securement and other topics. She will also be an instructor in the NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Restraint Systems on School Buses session on Sunday, March 19.

On Monday, March 20, she will co-present ā€œBusting Myths Surrounding Transportation of Students with Special Needsā€ with Kathleen Furneaux of the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute. The session will address myths and misconceptions about the safe transportation of students with special needs.

On Tuesday, March 21, Shutrump will also be a part of a panel titled, ā€œWhat We Do, How We Do It & What We Can Do Betterā€ moderated by Alexandra Robinson of the New York City Department of Education. Joining Shutrump on the panel will be: Fred Doelker, director of safety for Dean Transportation in Michigan; PTSIā€™s Furneaux; and Dr. Jean Paulsel, a certified family life educator and Head Start grant expert.
