American Traffic Solutions Announces Contract Awards in Chicago, Atlanta and More

TEMPE, Ariz. — American Traffic Solutions (ATS) sprinted to the halfway mark of 2013, posting notable contract awards from Atlanta, Chicago and Orange County, Fla., among others, totaling more than 680 potential red-light, speed and school bus safety cameras.

In Chicago, ATS was awarded the city’s Children’s Safety Zone Program after a lengthy procurement that included a head-to-head technology and service demonstration and evaluation process against Xerox where ATS was the “unanimous choice.” Speed safety cameras will soon be installed near schools and parks to deter speeding for the protection of children and other pedestrians.

In addition, the Atlanta Public Schools selected ATS to install its CrossingGuard school bus safety cameras, which are mounted on the outside of school buses and capture images and video of vehicles that illegally pass a bus when it is stopped to allow children to get on or off the bus. Last year, more than 7,300 vehicles illegally passed stopped school buses in Georgia in a single day, according to a survey of bus drivers. The city of Atlanta also selected ATS to operate its red-light safety camera program, replacing the current vendor, Xerox.

Orange County, Fla., selected ATS to install and operate up to 80 red-light safety cameras. Other notable awards include: Kent, Wash.; Tucson, Ariz.; Washington County, Md.; Falls Church, Va.; Paulding County, Ga.; Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

“ATS is honored to partner with these communities and school districts as they work to increase driver awareness and enhance traffic safety in their areas,” said Adam Tuton, president, state and local government solutions for ATS. “Drivers who speed, run red lights or illegally pass stopped school buses put themselves and innocent children and others in life-threatening danger. Road safety cameras are proven to reduce this danger by changing driver behavior and decreasing the number and severity of collisions and injuries on the road.”
