National Express Transit Tech Earns ASE Master Certification

MERCED, Calif. — Maintenance Technician Luis Salcedo with National Express Transit (NEXT) has earned the prestigious Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master School Bus Technician certification.

Master-certified technicians must complete a series of rigorous tests ranging from body systems and diesel engines to suspension and steering. ASE describes master status as being “the best of the best”—the gold standard for technicians across the U.S.

“Luis is a dedicated technician with years of experience under his belt. His commitment to constantly learn and improve encourages everyone around him to do the same,” said Jim Moore, vice president of maintenance for Durham. “He is a valuable member of our team and the ASE master certification is well deserved recognition.”

In 2016, less than 4,500 technicians were ASE certified, and only around 1,400 of those technicians earned master certification.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals. ASE Certified Technicians work in every part of the automotive service industry.
