‘Our Planet’ Show to feature Orbit Software, Inc.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The producers of Our Planet are pleased to announce that Orbit Software, Inc. will be featured in an upcoming episode as part of the show’s series on Transportation Solutions for the 21st Century.

The first school bus, introduced in 1827, was horse-drawn and designed to carry 25 children. Originally used to transport children living in rural areas that were unable to walk to school due to distance, school buses are now almost universally used to transport all children to school. Each year in the United Sates, approximately 440,000 public school buses travel more than four billion miles. Each day, school buses transport 25 million children to and from schools and school-related events.

As school buses gained more popularity, automotive technology advanced and safety regulations increased. From warning lights and mechanical stop arms to two-way radios and video cameras, modern school buses are equipped with the latest in safety features. One of the greatest safety features available for school buses is routing software and live GPS monitoring.

Established in 1998, by three professionals with extensive database programming and management experience in student transportation, Orbit Software offers bus routing software for school districts, school bus contractors, head start programs and special needs transportation. Instead of manually scheduling bus routes for students using a pencil, paper and a wall map, transportation staff can utilize Orbit’s BusBoss™ software to do the routing and scheduling for them. Administrators may also choose to integrate student and vehicle GPS tracking using Orbit’s TRIPpatrol GPS Tracking Software. TRIPpatrol allows for a higher level of safety, security and efficiency of the school’s fleet by providing real-time data to administrators. This gives administrators the ability to monitor vehicle activity, optimize routes, easily locate a bus or a student during an emergency or accident and track driver times to eliminate excess hours and reduce fuel and maintenance costs.

“We are very happy to be part of an industry that promotes student safety while ensuring a cleaner planet tomorrow by providing a product that reduces resource requirements”, said Sonia Mastros, President of OSI. “We are making the planet better, one school district at a time.”
