A Year After Sandy Hook, Newtown School District Installs Video Systems on Buses

As the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy approaches, safety remains a top priority for the Newtown (Conn.) Public School District. To keep students safe the entire school day, Newtown recently outfitted all of its school buses with PRO-VISION School Bus Video Recording Systems.

Last December the entire nation watched the news in horror as the safety, security and innocence of an elementary school was shattered by the actions of a lone gunman. On Monday the state’s attorney’s office released a report on the search to find a motive for Adam Lanza, who turned the gun on himself after killing 20 schoolchildren and six staff members. Though investigators could not establish a clear motive of the 20-year-old shooter, they discovered he was fascinated by the 1999 Columbine high school shooting and other mass murders.

In the past year, the Newtown community has worked hard toward restoring a sense of safety throughout their school district, and PRO-VISION Video Systems said it is proud to be a part of that solution.

These onboard video systems offer continuous recording with full-color night vision cameras to make sure nothing escapes notice. They provide a video record of people entering the door, the driver and passengers from the front row all the way to the rear seating area, which enables drivers to better manage behavior and ensure bus security.

“Knowing that there is a video record of any occurrence on one of the Newtown buses is a great deterrent to those who might otherwise cause issues,” said Sam Lehnert, marketing manager for PRO-VISION. “With the ability to integrate up to four cameras with audio, GPS, an event marker for the driver and remote live viewing, these buses and the passengers on them are covered.”

He added that the company will keep the Newtown families in their thoughts during this difficult time of remembrance and continue to do all it can to increase safety and security for the children who ride school buses every day in the U.S.
