The Lafayette Parish School System in Louisiana organized an event in April to appreciate and thank its current school bus drivers amid a perceived nationwide shortage.
The district shared a social post of the event, in which school bus drivers and attendants gathered at Acadiana High School on April 17, for a special appreciation day. Lunch was provided and drivers received recognition for their hard work.
Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr., and Transportation Operations Manager Ross Cloteaux stated that their transportation team is essential to the safety and success of their school system.
A few school bus drivers talked to local news reporters and expressed gratitude for recent improvements such as better pay, air conditioning on buses and being acknowledged.
This appreciation event was reportedly the first of its kind for the district, and there are plans to make it a yearly tradition.
