NAPT Special Needs Training Program Adds Another Alum

Debbie Jones became the latest student transporter from the state of Texas to obtain an endorsement tied to NAPT’s Special Needs Training (SNT) Program, the association announced.

Jones is the transportation director at Columbia-Brazoria ISD, which is located about 50 miles southeast of Houston. An NAPT representative said Jones is the 18th person nationwide to complete the SNT Program. The first three recipients also hail from the greater Houston area, and Jones is also the second student transporter from Texas to recently obtain the endorsement.

The program has a core curriculum that consists of six special needs courses in a variety of different settings, including a school bus roadeo and a trade show of school transportation products and services. The core curriculum is supplemented by two courses of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series (PDS) Program.

Jones took the required curriculum at different state events in Texas and at the 2011 Transporting Students with Disabilities and Preschoolers National Conference in Kansas City. The syllabus for the core curriculum has been specifically designed to increase an individual’s specific knowledge about transporting students with disabilities.
