Nashville District Turns to Tracking Software

Sometimes less can be more — more efficient, that is. For Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), consolidating four vendors into one has already created greater efficiencies for its student transportation department.

Recently MNPS signed up for the entire suite of Tyler’s Versatrans applications to aid in routing, tracking and maintaining nearly 1,100 school buses.

Ranked the nation’s 42nd-largest district, MNPS transports roughly 45,000 students daily in addition to providing about 2,400 field trips, 1,100 Encore gifted program trips and 2,800 evening program trips each school year. Tyler noted that the size of the district magnifies the value of every efficiency created.

By selecting Versatrans, the district said it instantly streamlined operations by bringing its previous four vendors — which supplied routing, field trips, GPS and vehicle maintenance systems — down to one system and one technology partner.

It also utilized the existing National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) contract in purchasing the Versatrans software, including the Routing & Planning, Triptracker, Fleetvision and My Stop solutions. The latter system provides mobile access for parents, students and guardians to look up school bus locations.

“Metro Nashville Public Schools committed to engaging a single-source transportation solution, but beyond that, they focused on finding a partner with a proven track record of developing strong working relationships and excellent customer service,” said Ted Thien, senior vice president and general manager of Tyler’s Versatrans solution.

“We pride ourselves on open communication and the ease with which you can interact with our organization at any level. Tyler focuses on building strong, positive relationships with each and every one of our clients, and we’re happy to have that opportunity with Metro Nashville Public Schools.”
