National Express Corporation (NEC) announced last month that Charlie Bruce is the new COO of the company’s North American operations, which includes Durham School Services in the United States and Stock Transportation in Canada.
Similar to a move announced on Feb. 22 that created the new position of vice president of mergers and acquisitions for Carey Paster, National Express also created Bruce’s new role. Paster and Bruce worked together while at First Student, where Bruce also served as COO of both First Student and FirstGroup North America from April 2008 through February 2010 and before that as executive vice president of sales and marketing from September 2005 through April of 2007.
Previously, Bruce held senior-level positions at Ruan Transportation from 2001 through 2005 and at Ryder Systems from 1981 through January of 2001. Most recently, Bruce had served as a consultant.
“I have worked with and known Charlie for many years. He is a proven leader in our industry and I truly look forward to having him on the team,” said David Duke, chief executive officer of NEC. “He has the experience and operational expertise to guide and support our local teams in delivering excellent service to our customers; this will be especially critical as we continue on our path of growth across North America.”
