Larry McNutt died suddenly early Friday, School Transportation News has learned. He was 69.
McNutt had served as Western Region sales manager of commercial sales for wheelchair-lift manufacturer Ricon, based in Panorama City, California, for the past 22 years. He was a fixture at the brand’s trade show booth at state and national events.
In a statement, the company said he also served as head of the Acti-Van Division and director of customer support.
He was also a sustaining member of the California Association of School Transportation Officials as well as a member of that National Association for Pupil Transportation, the California Association for Coordinated Transportation and the Community Transportation Association of America.
Prior to joining Ricon, McNutt held several positions at Paramount Equipment Sales, including vice president of sales, director of customer service and director of operations. He began his transportation career in 1972 as an assembler for school bus builder Wayne Corporation.
Ricon representatives said the news came as a shock. More information was scheduled to be released on Monday.
A native of Richmond, Indiana, McNutt is survived by wife Marie, Scott McNutt (Christie), Tracey McNutt Miller (Jeff), Cameron Serra, Chelsea Serra Johnson (Jeremy) and grandchildren Kailey, Taylor, Tyler, Finnley, Wyatt and Cole Ellora, Eli, Emma and Emmett. He resided in Valencia, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.
Ricon said a Celebration of Life service is planned for January 2019.
