SafeStop App Adds School Bus Tracking in Five States

Some 30,000 parents in Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Oregon and Texas could soon have the ability to track when and where their children got on and off the school bus.

SafeStop announced that its technology is now tracking additional school buses with the expansion. A company spokesman told STN that the app will soon be available for more school bus contractors, adding that GPS tracking will also be available.

The app launched in 2013 includes a real-time map feature that displays the location of their child’s bus, provides estimated arrival times at their bus stop and provides parents with an alerts and messaging center.

SafeStop said the messaging system eliminates the need for phone calls to schools or bus depots and serves as an extra communication channel alerting parents about important school news, such as delays, closings, early dismissals or upcoming school events.

The app is available in all 50 states in the U.S. and throughout Canada. SafeStop said it is compatible with any transportation provider, any GPS hardware and any routing software, and the service provides flexible payment options and can be a subscription service, parent pay, school/district pay or sponsor pay.

School bus stop location and arrival apps are increasing in popularity and availability with no less than a half-dozen on the market and more rumored to be on the way.
