STI Expands Presence in Upstate New York With Three New Bus Contracts

Student Transportation Inc. announced that its subsidiary, Student Transportation of America, Inc. (STA), has secured three new school bus contracts in upstate New York that will generate more than $7 million in revenue as of this fall.

Batavia City School District, Attica Central School District and Williamsville Central School District have all signed contracts with STA after opting to switch from their current service provider for the next school year. The Batavia and Attica districts are both members of the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership.

Per the contracts, STA will provide approximately 150 vehicles as well as customer-paid fuel, which will further reduce the contractor’s exposure to fuel-price fluctuations.

“This is a great new addition to our expanding fleet in western New York,” said Gene Kowalczewski, senior vice president of STA. “Currently, we have operations in the Greater Buffalo Niagara Frontier, and this adds to the regional density we are building there. We look forward to expanding our operation here and welcoming in over 200 new employees to our family.”

Two weeks ago STI finalized the acquisition of California school-bus contract assets from Atlantic Express, which recently closed down after losing its New York City business. The California deal — which is being handled by its subsidiary School Wheels Direct — includes 425 vehicles and assumes more than $26 million in annualized contracted revenues in addition to 500 new companies.

Keith P. Engelbert, STI’s director of investor relations, confirmed that the latest New York contracts are unrelated to this agreement.
