Thomas Built Buses Selects Photo Contest Winners, Donates $10K to Schools

Five schools are receiving $2,000 for their respective STEM programs after Thomas Built Buses selected photos of their students heading back to school on the yellow bus.

The school bus manufacturer opened the contest at the beginning of the current school year to invite parents to submit photos of their children that capture the spirit of heading back to school after the summer break. Submissions from around the country were judged by followers of Thomas Built Buses’ Facebook page. The 50 photos with the most online vote were then presented to a panel of judges to select the best five based on originality, applicability to the back-to-school theme, inclusion of the Thomas school bus or the driver, composition, and photo quality.

The five winners hail from the following schools: McEndree School in Flora, Ill.; Chancey Elementary in Louisville, Ky.; Spencer School in Middletown, Conn.; Central School in Huntsville, Ala.; and Kalama School District in Kalama, Wash. The $2,000 grants for science, technology, engineering and math curriculum were provided through the Daimler Education in Motion campaign. Daimler is the parent company of Thomas.

“For over 70 years, parents and school districts have trusted Thomas Built to transport their students,” said Thomas Built Buses President and CEO Kelly Platt. “School buses are an iconic symbol for the back to school season and the excitement that goes with it. We wanted to encourage parents to celebrate back to school season while giving them an opportunity to benefit their schools.”
