A school bus driver received the honor of “Southern California’s Bus Driver of the Year” from the California Highway Patrol Tuesday after preventing a bus of elementary school students from rolling down a hill, reported ABC 7.
In January of last year, the driver, who was driving an empty bus, spotted another bus having mechanical problems. The bus then began rolling down the hill, and he heard students screaming.
He then moved his bus behind the rolling bus, stopping it from going any further.
“It was a moment I realized what I did. That’s the amazing thing…I didn’t have any fear in that moment. Normally no one can do that, but when I see the kids all screaming in front of me, that’s why I made a quick decision. So after that I said thanks God,” he said.
