Cumberland Valley School District Gets $750K Transportation Grant

Cumberland Valley School District has received a $750,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, reported ABC 27 News.

The grant will cover part of the cost requested to improve safety along Lambs Gap and Bali Hai roads. The total requested is $2.3 million.

This comes as the community prepares for the construction of a new elementary and middle school at the intersection of the two roadways.

“This is an investment that will serve our students and our community for generations. The board and the administration are sincerely appreciative of those who share our vision and dedication to our children,” president of the Cumberland Valley Board of School Directors, Robert Walker, said in a release.

The transportation improvements have been proposed:

  • Relocating a segment of Bali Hail Road to the north of its existing alignment to accommodate the new schools.
  • Converting the intersection at Bali Hai and Lambs Gap roads into a roundabout.
  • Reconstructing Lamps Gap Road south of the existing intersection with Bali Hai Road to provide a sight distance by 570 feet.
  • Constructing an exclusive right turn lane along the westbound approach of Creekview Road to Lambs Gap Road.
  • Construction of an exclusive left turn along the southbound approach to Creekview Road from Lambs Gap Road.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June.
