During a 30-day grace period, more than 1,000 drivers have passed buses illegally were caught on new bus-mounted video cameras, reported the Statesman.
The Austin school district began capturing violators in January. Police Chief Eric Mendez said his department is reviewing video for violations now, and the first batch of tickets for those who passed buses on or after Feb. 8 will be mailed soon. It’s unclear how many violations occured after the grace period.
Roughly 300 buses will be mounted with the cameras that catch drivers who illegally pass.
