The 21st annual North American School Bus EXPO will feature around 50 educational opportunities next month, including four general sessions and two pre-conference seminars. And potential attendees have more time to register at the standard rate of $299.
School Transportation News on Monday published a digital, eight-page preview on the STN EXPO site. It will also be published in the upcoming July edition of the magazine. The company also announced the registration extension through June 30.
The conference begins Saturday, July 26, with two separate-registration seminars, the eight-hour NHTSA Child Passenger Safety on School Buses course and the four-hour course “School Bus Driver Prevention and Detection of Violence.” The latter will be taught by Sgt. Casey Utterback of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and a trainer with Gray Ram Tactical, LLC.
The regular conference begins the following day with a live exercise featuring SWAT team members from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Reno, Nev., responding to mock hostage and other security situations on the school bus.
Two of the many highlights of this year’s STN EXPO are the keynote addresses, the first by “Gen-Y Guy” Jason Dorsey the afternoon of July 28 during an event sponsored by Blue Bird Corporation and ROUSH CleanTech; and the second by Peter Cookson, the senior researcher at the American Institutes of Research, presented by STN the morning of July 29.
The five-hour EXPO Trade Show follows Cookson’s address.
Additionally, the popular closing-night reception, rebranded this year as the “STN Extravaganza,” returns the evening of July 29 to provide attendees and exhibitors alike an opportunity to continue their networking in a more relaxed atmosphere.
