The 51st Annual Meeting and Convention of the National School Transportation Association came to a close Wednesday in Minneapolis with Todd Monteferrario assuming the presidency after serving the past two years as president-elect.
Monteferrario is the senior director of operational excellence for school bus contractor First Student and has worked in the industry since 1981. Prior to joining First Student in August 2002, he worked with his family-owned company Bergen-Passaic Transport Service, Inc. in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, for 21 years.
During his term as NSTA president, Monteferrario said he plans to focus on addressing motorist awareness of student safety near or around school buses, and the value of outsourcing services provided by contractors to school districts and communities.
“I am honored to serve as president for the National School Transportation Association and represent the membership,” said Mr. Monteferrario. “We will continue to provide school transportation professionals with the tools and resources they need to make school buses safe, secure, affordable and efficient nationwide.”
For the past 18 years, Monteferrario has served on NSTA’s board of directors, and he was membership chair in 2013 and has sat on the executive committee since 2011.
He received NSTA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2013 for “recent, significant, substantial, and special contributions to pupil transportation contracting” and the association’s Golden Merit Award in 2011 to recognize his operational achievements in the areas of safety, driver training, business practice, vehicle maintenance, and superior service to the school, community and the pupil transportation industry.
