STN EXPO Pre-Con Focuses on School Bus Evacuation Planning

A second pre-conference workshop added to the STN EXPO conference lineup will give registered attendees vital steps to successfully prepare or re-write school bus evacuation plans. Presented by Kathleen Furneaux, executive director of the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute, this pre-conference will be held Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Attendees registered for “Writing a School Bus Evacuation Plan,” one of two pre-conferences offered on July 25, will leave the workshop having created a plan from beginning to end, and with situations that motivate some in-depth thinking.

“We will walk them through the process of writing an actual plan. We will give them a hypothetical bus route, students with IEPs, and different floor plans for the buses, along with throwing in some geographical and physical challenges,” said Furneaux.

This all-day pre-conference has a separate cost from the STN EXPO main conference registration. The fee is $149 until June 20, and $199 beginning June 21.

These fees also apply to the second pre-conference workshop, “NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Restraint Systems on School Buses,” held on the same day.
