#TSD2018: Special Needs Transportation Legal Advice

Special education attorney Julie Weatherly and the TSD Conference Trade Show highlight day four of the event that starts this weekend in Frisco, Texas.

Weatherly returns for the second straight year with the morning keynote “Navigating Legal Minefields in Transporting Students with Disabilities.” She plans to discuss the major issues currently affecting student transporters and what they can learn from as a result of recent case law.

That afternoon she leads a breakout session on “Ensuring FAPE in Student Transportation” and is available to take more questions from attendees.

But first, the TSD Trade Show commences with 65 exhibiting companies displaying their products and services.

Following lunch on the trade show floor, attendees return to the classroom for the afternoon sessions. In addition to Weatherly’s workshop on FAPE, a panel of experts lead the annual OT/PT/Transporter Forum. The focus of conversations this year is on assessing wheelchair accessories and components for their impact on safe securement of passengers as well as overcoming other “perplexing” challenges when transporting students with disabilities.

The afternoon also includes sessions on facilitating transportation needs for families of Head Start students and the importance of improving child passenger safety for pre-K students.
