Fowler of Richmond, Mo., Receives National School Transportation Association Hall of Fame Award

BALTIMORE, Md.–The National School Transportation Association (NSTA) announced its 2011 Hall of Fame Award to Donald Fowler on the evening of July 19 at the association’s Annual Meeting and Convention in Baltimore, Md.

Mr. Fowler, of Fowler Bus Company in Richmond, Missouri, has been a member of NSTA for almost 30 years. During that time he has served as chairman for the Safety and Security Committee, overseeing the association’s safety efforts, policy statements and the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition. Most recently, Mr. Fowler served as the President for NSTA from 2009 to 2011. Mr. Fowler stepped into the position of immediate past President after handing the reins over to Magda Dimmendaal, CEO of Dousman Transport.

“’If you need something done, ask a busy person.’ Certainly this is true for Donnie Fowler,” says Mrs. Dimmendaal, who began her tenure as President last week. “While running three small businesses, Donnie was committed to NSTA, and helped it get through some very challenging times. He was instrumental in the hiring of a full time Executive Director. I look forward to his continued participation in NSTA as well as ASBC [American School Bus Council].”

Throughout his membership, Donnie has made significant contributions to NSTA and to the yellow school bus industry. He has been a representative to the ASBC and has served as President of the Missouri School Bus Contractors Association.

Mr. Fowler is also a member of the Richmond City Council and has been active with his church, the United Christian Presbyterian Church. He owns a packaged ice business and spends his free time on his farm and fishing on his lake with his wife, Mary, and two children, Kyle and Mckenzie.
