First Student announced it renewed its contract with San Francisco Unified School District to extend the long-standing relationship into its fifth decade.
The two began working together on contracted transportation service 45 years ago. The new five-year contract begins with the upcoming school year. First Student agreed to replace the district’s current fleet of 230 vehicles over the contract life, with 20 percent of those hitting the streets this fall. Overall, First Student transports 3,700 San Francisco Unified students each school day on more than 200 routes.
“We have been proud to serve generations of families in the San Francisco community,” said First Student Area General Manager Susan Moorehead, who has worked with San Francisco Unified for more than 40 years herself. “We thank the district for its continued trust in our services and look forward to working together to ensure SFUSD students have a safe and reliable way to get to and from school for many years to come.”
Liz Sanchez, First Student’s senior vice president said Moorhead has been instrumental in the success of the contract. Moorhead began driving for the district in 1974 when she joined First Student. She now is responsible for not only the San Francisco operation but those at 12 other First Student locations in Northern California.
“We believe that great transportation is always the result of close partnerships,” Sanchez added. “Susan and her team have truly delivered on our promise to care for students today, tomorrow, together.”
