Zonar announced that FMCSA Assistant Administrator Jack Van Steenburg will speak at next month at THE ZONE 2013 transportation conference produced by vehicle inspection and GPS provider Zonar.
THE ZONE is scheduled for May 14-16 in San Antonio, Texas, and features three additional keynote presentations from comedien John Pinette, motivational business speaker Mike Rayburn and author David Goldsmith. THE ZONE also presents six learning tracks covering the latest trends in fleet management, impending transportation regulation, operational safety, driver retention, fuel efficiency and management best practices.
Van Steenburg, who will speak the morning of May 15, is also FMCSA’s chief safety officer and has spoken previously to student transporters at the NASDPTS annual conference. He is the former director of FMCSA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance, where he led all enforcement programs that contribute to commercial vehicle transportation nationwide. Van Steenburg is also a retired, 25-year veteran of the New York State Police, where he was a trooper, sergeant, lietu all the way to staff inspector. A Zonar spokesman said Van Steenburg will provide updates to attendees on how to improve compliance through the new CSA program and how to plan for future changes in federal, state and local regulations.
As with his NASDPTS appearance several years ago, Van Steenburg will be joined on the conference agenda by Steve Keppler, executive director of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, a nonprofit that partners with FMCSA topromote commercial motor vehicle safety and security by providing leadership to enforcement, industry and policy makers. Michael Martin, executive director of NAPT is also scheduled to speak.
Other presenters include Annette Sandberg, the past administrator of FMCSA, and Rob Abbott, vice president of safety policy at the American Trucking Associations. Representing the National Private Truck Council are Gary Petty, president and CEO, and Tom Moore, senior vice president of education.
