Zero-emissions vehicle manufacturer The Lion Electric Company revealed its new all-electric, 26-foot midi/minibus at the Movin’On event in Montreal, the eLionM. The low-floor bus meets paratransit/transit/urban requirements, and can travel 150 miles on a single charge, said company founder and CEO Marc Bedard.
“The launch of this new vehicle represents a major achievement for Lion, our society and our environment,” enthused Bedard at an outdoor press conference held for the launch announcement on Wednesday.
The 160 kWh vehicle is “one of a kind and is not a retrofit,” he said. “It’s a custom-built, zero-emission and energy-efficient solution” that was “specifically built with transportation operators and agencies in mind.”
Peter Rego, chief commercial officer USA for the 10-year-old company, added that Lion is already taking orders. “[We] just completed the biggest deployment of all-electric school buses in the USA and it’s clearly just the beginning,” he added.
Company officials explained that Lion has “spent the last eight years designing and developing all-electric vehicles and the last three years commercializing the eLionC, an all-electric Type C school bus.” The company has already deployed over 150 eLionC buses, which have collectively driven over one million miles. Lion also claims to have manufactured the largest fleet of all-electric Type C school buses in North America.
In addition, Lion has scheduled the introduction of its new eLionA for this summer. The electric minibus was designed to meet school transportation requirements, officials said.
Later on, manufacturing will begin on a new complete line of all-electric medium- to heavy-duty trucks in 2019, using the new technologies that have been developed over the past eight years.
