Last week, the election committee of th National Association for Pupil Transportation announced on Friday that requests for absentee ballots must be received by Sept. 4. Official absentee ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters by Sept. 19.
Absentee voters have until Oct. 9 to return their ballots. Onsite voting for the 2013 election takes place Oct. 23 on the trade show floor of the NAPT Annual Summit in Grand Rapids, Mich.
This year, NAPT members will elect new representatives for board positions of president-elect, partner affiliate member director and directors for Regions 1 and 5. Already, David Anderson, director of transportation at Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, Colo., entered his name for re-election as director of Region 5.
Any person who wishes to be a candidate for NAPT president-elect or regional director must be an active individual member of the association for at least two years. These candidates must be nominated by a minimum of two active individual members of the association. Candidates for regional director must be nominated by individuals from that particular region.
Candidates for affiliate member director must be a current business partner individual member and must be nominated by at least two current business partner individual members.
The president-elect is selected by vote of all active members. Regional directors are selected by vote of only those active members whose mailing address is within that specific region. The affiliate member director is chosen by NAPT Business Partner Individual Members only. The President Elect serves a four-year term – two as president-elect and two as president. The regional director serves for three years and the affiliate member serves for two years.
