National Congress Cancels Innovations Committee

While online registration is open for the National Congress on School Transportation in Des Moines, Iowa in May, a new committee that was to consider technological innovations has been tabled.

Murrell Martin, NCST Steering Committee chair and the state director of student transportation at the Utah State Department of Education, also said the inaugural “Chronicling Innovations Committee” has been eliminated from the agenda “after careful consideration.” He said by the Steering Committee determined that, instead of separate committees, individual vetted and proven innovations should be submitted to an applicable existing writing committee for consideration in the updated specs and procedures.

He also said new innovations can also be considered by states and deliberated through existing formal NCST processes.

Martin also reported that all initial proposals from the three NCST writing committees and their subcommittees have been completed and are posted on the NCST website. State delegation chairs received the documents for input and comments from their members and must submit all responses by March 15.

A full agenda is also posted, though it is not yet finalized.

Meanwhile, the registration cost is $300 per state delegate, alternate delegate or other interested parties and includes two dinners, three lunches, refreshment breaks and a digital copy of the 2015 National School Transportation Specifications and Procedures document. Printed specifications manuals with the commemorative “NCST: Celebrating 75 Years” logo can be pre-ordered for $55 each. Web visitors can also find hotel information, an NCST FAQ page and contacts.
