Newly Implemented U.S. Department of Transportation Rule on Drug Testing

The U.S. Department of Transportation has amended certain provisions of its drug and alcohol testing procedures related to altered, substituted, diluted, and invalid urine specimen results.

Employees that submit diluted urine samples will be required to return to the collection site immediately to be retested without advanced notice. During the follow-up test, the individual must show the collector that they are not using any type of prosthetic device by lifting their shirt or blouse and removing their skirt or pants and undergarments. The observer must then stay in the immediate area to observe that the test takes place normally.
