STN Webinar to Cover Effects of Upcoming FCC Narrowbanding Requirement for Two-Way Radios

School Transportation News is partnering with Motorola to present a webinar that provides student transporters with information regarding a Jan. 1, 2013 federal requirement for two-way radio systems to have a narrower bandwidth.

Mark Crosby, president and CEO of the Enterprise Wireless Alliance, will discuss why the FCC is requiring newer two-way radios to have a minimum narrowband of 12.5 kHz, decreased from the current requirement of 25 kHz, to increase space on the spectrum for other forms of mobile communication such as GPS. Crosby will also speak to the affect on radio coverage for school bus operators as well as penalties for non-compliance, which range from fines to losing a radio license.

The online webinar is scheduled for Jan. 26 at noon Eastern/9 a.m. Pacific. Registration is free, but toll-charges may apply. For more information on the presentation and how to sign up, visit STN’s webcast page and select the event “2013 FCC Narrowbanding Requirement.”
