Former School Bus Driver Receives Probation after Admitting to Rape

A former New York school bus driver was sentenced to probation on Thursday after reportedly admitting to raping a student, said the Washington Post.

Shane Piche, 26, pleaded guilty in February to third-degree rape. The article said Piche had raped a 14-year old girl who was a student on his bus route.

Jefferson County Judge James P. McClusky gave the defendant 10 years of probation and was assigned the lowest status, Level 1, on New York’s sex offender registry, the article noted.

The victim’s mother told another news source, WWNYTV, that Piche “brought her daughter gifts, and invited her and other minors to his home, where he gave them alcohol.” The article said the victim was raped at Piche’s house.

He is reportedly no longer employed by the school district.
