Florida deputies said that a school bus driver reported mechanical problems as he pulled over at the first bus stop to transfer children to a new bus. This occured in the nick of time as moments after the kids were put onto another bus to make it home, the bus burst into flames, according to CBS News.
“All of a sudden, ka-boom, there was one explosion and then a few minutes later, another explosion,” said one witness who recorded the inferno.
The witness said he saw the driver flee the bus just minutes before it exploded.
“I asked the bus driver, ‘Did everybody get out OK?’ and he said, ‘Yeah,” Alexander said. “I said, ‘Do you know what happened?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it started smoking, we smelled smoke.’ I said, ‘Do you know where it came from?’ He said, ‘The air conditioner.”‘
