Two high school boys’ basketball coaches in Oklahoma were fired after officials learned the men used a school bus to drive to a convenience store and purchase beer, reports KXII News 12.
The Tishomingo High School boys’ basketball team was out of town at Connors State College for a basketball camp; alcohol is not allowed on the college campus. According to student and team member Kyle Miller, the two coaches told the team to stay in their dorms, and the boys complied. Consequently, he said, they did not know anything of the incident until the next day.
After leaving their players in their rooms, the coaches drove to a nearby convenience store in a team school bus to purchase alcohol. A store clerk later notified Connors State officials, said a Tishomingo school board member. Upon learning of what the coaches had done, school officials immediately fired them.
The team and their community expressed their disappointment of the coaches’ actions. Miller recounted being “pretty upset because we paid money out-of-pocket to go that camp” and then had to leave early because of the incident.
Another Tishomingo resident concurred, saying, “I think it’s very disrespectful to our community, to the future of our kids to think it’s okay to do something like that.”
