Career Advancement Advice Awaits Maintenance Pros at STN EXPO

There are plenty of reasons for student transporters to attend the STN EXPO in Reno, Nevada, each summer, and this year is no different.

For those who specialize in fleet operations, for example, we’ve developed something new to address a growing need. The learning and networking begins on Saturday, July 14, with a new half-day seminar aimed at providing an overview on the knowledge necessary and steps to be taken to assume a larger leadership role in the garage.

The aptly named “So, You Want to Be a Shop Manager?” session will include information on hiring new mechanics, developing job descriptions and training programs, as well as the importance of creating and documenting shop policies—plus the different understanding fuel and technology options that are available. (A concurrent seminar on Saturday poses the question, “So, You Want to Be a Transportation Operations Supervisor?”)

The learning experience only starts there.

The regular STN EXPO conference breakout sessions commence the afternoon of Sunday, July 15, following morning opening general sessions with a lineup that includes discussions on the role of remote diagnostics and telematics in the garage, the importance of school bus inspection programs, how to choose the right maintenance program for your operations, and new emissions reduction opportunities.

STN is also forming a panel of school bus manufacturers to provide updates on their products, and how new vehicles, fuels and technology are gearing toward increased uptime, reducing emissions and saving money.

The learning culminates with the STN EXPO Trade Show, which opens Monday evening, July 16, with the Trade Show Extravaganza, and continues the following day.
