The Senate confirmed Raymond Martinez as the new leader of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The National School Transportation Association that represents private school bus contractor interests congratulated Martinez in a statement on Wednesday and recognized his experience.

“We are looking forward to working collaboratively with Administrator Martinez and the FMCSA to continue pursuing the goals of providing safe, secure, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective school transportation services,” said Tiffany Boykin, NSTA’s executive director.

Martinez had served as the chief administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission for the past eight years. President Trump nominated him as FMCSA administrator last September.

He also served in the Reagan and both Bush administrations, as well as New York state commissioner of motor vehicles under Gov. George Pataki.

At FMCSA, Martinez will work alongside Deputy Administrator Cathy Gautreaux; Chief Safety Officer Jack Van Steenburg, who has been a frequent presenter at the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services Annual Conference; Sharon Worthy, director of external affairs; and Wiley Deck, director of government affairs.
