TWC News reports that representatives from a local North Carolina union along with drivers themselves are pushing the issue that wages should be higher.
“We love the students. We keep them safe. The way we pick ‘em up is the way we take them back home. So I feel like we deserve a raise,” said one driver, who has been driving with the district for nearly two decades and said in recent years, she has picked up extra jobs to make ends meet.
Officials say there hasn’t been a significant wage increase in years and that pay for drivers in the county is lower compared to several other urban counties.
