Special Needs Student Hitchhikes Home After Being Left on School Bus

A Florida student with special needs hitchhiked and walked about 30 miles after he was left behind on the school bus, reported NBC4i

The child, 13, fell asleep on the bus and while the other children disembarked, the child stayed on board, still sleeping. The bus aide reportedly walked the bus but did not check to see if any students remained. The bus driver also failed to check for students.

The child then climbed out of the driver’s side window and hitchhiked and walked from about 30 miles. The incident reportedly happened again a week later.

The driver and aide have both been charged with negligent child abuse.
