A fatal crash in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, once again demonstrates the danger to motorists who fail to stop in time and underride the rear of school buses.
None of the 31 passengers or driver of a school bus were injured on Sept. 18 in an early morning Baton Rouge traffic collision. However, the driver and passenger in a vehicle that ran full-speed into the tail end of the stopped bus that was waiting to turn onto Airline Highway, were both killed.
The collision peeled off the top of the car, accident photos showed. The 7:30 a.m. crash also sparked a fire, which was quickly extinguished by a nearby eyewitness, police reported.
The adult driver died at the scene, and the child died in a local hospital three days later, WBRZ2 TV said.
