Video Spotlight: School Bus Safety Legislation Introduced

In May 2018, a school bus crashed with a dump truck in Paramus, New Jersey, killing one student and a teacher. The bus driver reportedly missed the exit and attempted to steer the bus across a three-lane highway to make a U-turn in the grassy median.

Since this accident, two school bus safety bills have been introduced in Congress, in an attempt to ensure that all school buses are equipped with lap/shoulder belts. Also, bus companies and school districts would be required to be notified within 24 hours if one of their drivers receives any moving violation other than a parking ticket.
